Event Description

What happens when the legal establishment becomes a tool in the hands of a dictatorial government? This eye-opening talk by author-filmmaker Joshua M. Greene reveals the consequences of appointing judges based not on their wisdom but on their allegiance to the head of state. This 90-minute program will feature a screening of Greene's award-winning documentary "Hitler's Courts" followed by an interactive discussion with Greene himself.

“Hitler’s Courts” received stellar reviews when it premiered on the popular PBS series “The Open Mind.” The film features archival footage from the Nazi era and interviews with leading voices in international law including Whitney R. Harris, Nuremberg prosecutor; and Justice Gabriel Bach, assistant prosecutor, 1961 trial of Adolf Eichmann.

Joshua M. Greene, is a Fellow at Yale University’s Fortunoff Video Archive for Holocaust Testimonies. He completed his graduate degrees in religious studies at Hofstra University. His books on Holocaust history have sold more than one-half million copies and are published in five languages, and his documentary films on war crimes trials and eyewitness testimony are seen on PBS and Discovery. He has been a featured speaker at the Pentagon, the Judge Advocates College, the New York Public Library Distinguished Authors series, and at synagogues, churches, universities, and law schools nationwide. He served as Director of Strategic Planning for the United Nations Summit of Religious and Spiritual Leaders and is a mediator serving in the New York area.
