Event Description

Shannon Downey aka Badass Cross Stitch, craftivist and author of Let’s Move the Needle: an activism handbook for artists, crafters, creatives, and makers, will join us to talk about art activism and her work as a craft-based community organizer.

Downey partnered in curating Community & Craftivism and will share the tale of Rita’s Quilt on display. When she stumbled upon an unfinished quilt at an estate sale in Mt. Prospect, Illinois, she knew she had to finish it in honor of the original artist who had passed on. She also knew that she could not do it alone. Hear the story of what happened when 150 artists from across the country worked together to finish #RitasQuilt.

Book signing to follow artist talk. Books will be available to purchase ($20) or bring your own.

Read more about Community & Craftivism, on display through July 23.
