Event Description

Join Illinois authors Jessamine Chan and Emily Maloney for an in-depth look at systems of power that wreak havoc on our lives, our families, and our finances through the lens of their acclaimed debut books The School for Good Mothers and Cost of Living.

Jessamine Chan is a New York Times bestseller author of The School for Good Mothers, her first novel. Her short stories have appeared in Tin House and Epoch. A former reviews editor at Publishers Weekly, she holds an MFA from Columbia University. She lives in Chicago with her husband and daughter.

Emily Maloney is the author of Cost of Living. Her work has appeared in Glamour, Virginia Quarterly Review, and Best American Essays, among others. She has worked as a dog groomer, pastry chef, general contractor, tile setter, and catalog model and sold her ceramics at art fairs. She lives in Evanston, Illinois.
