Event Description

Dann Gire, Daily Herald movie critic, and Raymond Benson, film historian and novelist, take a deep dive into the Golden Age of the Exploitation Film! Grab some popcorn and kick up your feet while these two share clips, little-known trivia, and more.

Shocking! Scandalous! Dann and Raymond look at the non-Hollywood independent movies made in the 1930s and 1940s that were exhibited in rented theaters around the country, sometimes to segregated (by gender) audiences because they were billed as “educational” films when in fact they were just sleazy exploitation pictures! “Reefer Madness,” “Mom and Dad”— some are infamous today, others more obscure. They are mostly hilarious, if frank, in their subject matter. This program is for adults 18+.
