Event Description

Tanner Woodford is founder and executive director of the Design Museum of Chicago, where he leads strategy, partnerships, and special projects. Drawing from a professional career in graphic, interaction, and exhibition design, Tanner’s artistic career is centered on a series of experiential, typographic, larger-than-life murals. When asked to participate in the Soho House's monthly mural program, Tanner started by excavating more than 150 layers of paint with a power sander and blowtorch. In doing so, he revealed neon spray paint, gold leafing, and wheat-paste graphics from some of Chicago’s most prolific artists, then added "Make Time" and "Take Time" on top.  While in quarantine, he has turned to his home studio, creating a series of companion canvases for each mural.

Meet Tanner and learn about his professional career at the Design Museum as the context for his independent art practice. He will share his process of making optimistic, typographic, and larger-than-life murals in public spaces, then turning them into collectable canvases. Closed-captioning will be available for this program
