“Ya Se Ha Muerto Mi Abuelo": Death Traditions from the Inka and Before is a survey of different traditions around death and life after death from Andean prehistory. Dr Christopher Milan, adjunct faculty in Anthropology at DePaul University, will focus on ancestor veneration, which was a significant religious practice in the Andes. Dr. Milan will describe its role within the Inka Empire and its origins within earlier cultures. We will explore burial practices of different cultures including the Lambayeque, Lima, Moche, and Paracas Cultures, and some of the myths recorded in the Spanish chronicles.
