You can find obituaries and death notices for the Chicago Tribune in two different sources: Heritage Hub from Newsbank and The Chicago Tribune (via Proquest). Here are some of the differences to help you decide which to use for obituaries and death notices:
- HeritageHub covers Tribune obituaries and death notices from 1860-1984. It treats each paid death notice as an individual article, sometimes making it easier to find specific names.
- The Chicago Tribune (via Proquest) has obituaries and death notices from 1849-present (with full-images from 1849-2011). Each day's paid death notices are treated as a single article, meaning that you will need to scan/search for individual names within the article.
- Staff-written obituaries (usually for more publicly-recognized individuals) are in both databases, but there may be more in the Proquest database, since it is a more complete version of the entire newspaper (the Newsbank version has limited staff-written content).
