When Home Won’t Let You Stay: Stories of Refugees in America

February 12 – March 25, 2020

This traveling exhibit showcased the stories of refugees through the portraits of documentary artist and photographer, James A. Bowey. The exhibit features refugees from around the world, captured in intimate portraits taken on location, depicting the everyday life of refugees. Accompanying the portraits, visitors are immersed in the stories of each subject, as shared with Bowey via interview. The individuals in this exhibition shared poignant stories of violence and loss, as well as perseverance and hope; and their collected images and experiences produced a compelling human portrait of refugees in America. Learn more about James A. Bowey.
