Rocket Men
by Robert Kurson
The story of Apollo 8's historic first trip to the moon in 1968 and the story of true American heroes and our country's incredible scientific achievement. I had a large-scale Saturn 5 in my office at Village Hall.
Chariots of Fire
Movie, 1981
Incredibly moving and inspirational 1981 film about two determined young runners training for and competing at the 1924 Paris Olympics. Eric Liddell (Ian Charleson), a devout Christian born to Scottish missionaries in China, sees running as part of his worship of God's glory and refuses to train or compete on the Sabbath. Harold Abrahams (Ben Cross) overcomes anti-Semitism and class bias but neglects his beloved sweetheart Sybil (Alice Krige) in his single-minded quest.
It's a Wonderful Life
Movie, 1946
Film starring James Stewart and Donna Reed about life in Bedford Falls—enough said!
Searching for Bobby Fischer
Movie, 1993
A film about seven-year-old chess prodigy, Josh Waitzkin. It is about chess, but maybe the best movie I have seen about parenthood and friendship. Tearing up just thinking about it.
