NOTES

Collins Big Cat is a guided reading series for ages 4-7 edited by Cliff Moon. Top children's authors and illustrators have created fiction and non-fiction books that your children will love to read, banded to help you choose the right book for every child. Practical ideas for guided reading are included at the back of each book. A boy and his mother go for a walk along the seashore and find all sorts of shapes. There's a starfish shaped like a star, a pebble that's an oval and a jellyfish that's a circle. A combination of fascinating photos and delightful artwork show children the variety of shapes that can be found on the seashore. The left hand page of each spread shows an illustration, with the child and his mother finding, for example, a starfish or jellyfish, while the right hand page shows a clear, detailed photo of the creature or item they find. A geometric shape below each illustration emphasises the shape of each thing found. A two-page spread at the end of the book brings together all the items the boy and his mother have found, and shows how they used them to decorate a sandcastle. Red A/Band 2A books contain short, simple, repetitious single sentences of approximately five to eight words. The text contains familiar objects and actions, combined with simple story development. - Series editor Cliff Moon is an acknowledged expert in teaching reading, with decades of experience, well known and trusted by teachers. - Collins has commissioned top children's authors and illustrators to create guided reading books that children will love to read. - Highly stimulating illustrations in a variety of styles, from cartoon to photographs, are designed to engage young readers' interest and imagination. - The highly visual books support developing literacy skills and provide a wealth of speaking and listening opportunities - Easily accessible teaching notes at your fingertips are included at the back of every reading book to support classroom management. - Special pages are provided at the end of the story to help teachers recap, check understanding and move on
