SHE APPEARS Your past has the unique and singular ability to shape your future. Often events from our past can make life so unbearable that we don't want to live it anymore. Other times, however, our past can pave the way to a much better world and a brighter future. Looking back on my past, I find myself covered in things a young woman should not have been exposed to. As a child, I was touched, abused, raped, used, and forced to endure unimaginable things. While experiencing these actions, I asked the Lord for strength and help. It often felt like my screams were falling on deaf ears. Many times the people I depended on to protect me would let me defend myself. In many cases, those trusted adults became the very forces of evil, trying to take over my dignity and self-esteem. Despite everything, I learned to lean on God. In times of rape and unwanted intimacy, he held me up. During periods of lack and lost love, God was my constant companion. I learned to look for it as it was looked for to be taken advantage of. This may sound like a harsh tale and an arduous life to have lived... But God In the midst of my struggle, sacrifice and sadness, I discovered the source of true joy and the origin of the oil of joy.
