NOTES

Please note: This is a companion version & not the original book. Book Preview: #1 I had won a championship that crowned me the top player of my class in EverQuest, a massive multiplayer online role-playing game. In the real world of my parents and friends, my win didn't mean much. But to my thirteen-year-old self, a nerd who always sucked at sports and never caught the attention of girls, it felt major. #2 I was always late to catch on to things in the real world. I was always picked last for pickup basketball games, and I was told to be cool or to stop trying to fit in. I always had trouble dating girls. I found comfort in gaming. #3 I learned that to be at the top of the game, I had to study. I went to websites and printed out pages of maps and put them into a binder. I would never do something like that for school. But as I studied and improved on my own, I realized that in order to do the most challenging things in the game, I had to join a team. #4 I knew gaming was my purpose. I sacrificed a lot to become great at the games I played, including a stronger relationship with my parents and admission to a higher-tier college. I gave up on potential chances to play high school sports
