Happy Hollowdays (Part One) is a Holiday family drama, coming of age story told in the perspective of a female millennial. Although the author may at times include themes and tell tales only the daughter of first generation immigrants can tell the story is universal. Humans in search of a perfect life, the American Dream. The author, Jenni Vere has been writing everyday as far back as she can remember. Staying up all night into the wee hours watching the sun come up from her bedroom window she dreamed of writing a classic novel. As a child at church one Sunday a visiting guest minister told her and her mother that she would be a great novelist as an adult and win the Pulitzer Prize. As a young adult she always kept this prediction in the back of her mind and continued to write everything from poetry to songs to plays from her life experiences. The author states she went through many phases as an adolescent and describes living through all the clichés of "suffering for one's art" such as living in basement apartments, while devoting all her time to reading and working on her craft all the while working various and odd jobs to make ends meet. "I was searching for inspiration from experiences and relationships, changing my major and life course many times, couch hopping, sleeping in recording studios, living in the ghetto, and at times living off the kindness of strangers, writing, re-writing and all the while meeting people from my travels who would later inspire many of the characters in my stories and songs." As the old adage goes "you got to pay your dues if you want to sing the blues." Speaking of the blues, JenniVere's solo album A Peace of my mind, a concept album is complimentary to the novel. In the opening track, Perfect Life she sings "and I think about it the ingredients to a perfect life" and the album concludes with "why dream of a perfect life when we can make 'Perfect Memories"' (final track on album). The author tells us the novel took her several years to write but it is not autobiographical. "The title of the Novel is a play on words for Happy Holidays. I love word play, hollow means empty, searching for fulfillment which is what life is all about? The title of my album is a Peace of my mind - 'a piece of my mind'. I'm giving you pieces of my mind." Her influences as a writer are "Irvine welsh, Anne Rice, Shakespeare, the poetry of Allen Ginsberg, Rimbaud, psychology textbooks, self help books." The scintillatingly erotic scenes in the novel would indeed satisfy fans of Anne Rice, the tongue in cheekiness reminds you of Irvine Welsh and the authors understanding of human nature - Shakespeare- we fall in love with the characters. Although she doesn't have any sisters and that the story is mostly fictional she tells us she does "have a lot in common with some of the characters in her stories as you may as well." The author has also tried her hand at film making in 2012 "with a cast of some of the best Asian American actors and the soundtrack with some of the coolest artists and musicians from all over the world. We are getting interest from festivals and film acquisition companies however we still need investors in order to continue filming the feature length version." The author begins to sing the classic Beatles song, Paperback writer. " Dear Sir or Madam, won't you have a look. It took me years to write..."
