NOTES

Title from title frames

This production is part of a famous series produced by BBC of all of William Shakespeare's plays. The resulting films, renowned for their loyalty to the text, utilized the best theatrical and television directors and brought highly praised performances from leading contemporary actors. As Henry's marriage to Margaret cedes the last of his father's French gains, the presence of a weak king encourages dissent. Feuds rage between Gloucester and Beaufort and between York's faction and the other lords until York sets up Jack Cade to lead a popular revolt. This 'repertory cast' performance continues Shakespeare's ambitious 'War of the Roses' trilogy. By using actors in multiple roles, director Jane Howell highlights the similarities and contrasts between various characters throughout the story
