Dr. Joseph Murphy (1898 - 1981), who spent considerable time in India learning Hindu philosophy, helped form a new church in America with Hindu ideologies, which later became one of the largest New Thought congregations in the country. Murphy eventually married, and he earned a Ph.D. in psychology from the University of Southern California.
