NOTES

"We met in a room where we weren't allowed to fall in love."Set against the backdrop of an LGBTIQ+ faith and activism workshop in Lesotho, this is the true story of an unexpected connection between a young Mosotho writer and a Ghanaian facilitator. Forced to keep their love hidden by the very rules meant to keep them safe, their bond deepens through stolen glances, whispered moments, and a cold swim that warmed their hearts. But love isn't always enough. When distance, silence, and reality pull them apart, the narrator begins a deeply personal journey of heartbreak, healing, and rediscovery - one that stretches from the quiet hills of Maseru to the loud questions inside their soul. This memoir explores the intersections of love, queerness, vulnerability, and courage - and what it means to be seen, chosen, and left behind. Makhethe Moshoeshoe is a Mosotho writer, creative communicator, and activist whose work explores the intersections of queerness, love, and identity in Southern Africa. With a background in Mass Communication and a passion for storytelling that amplifies marginalized voices, Makhethe brings raw honesty and emotional depth to every piece of writing. They are a YALI Civic Leadership alum, co-founder of a creative agency, and an active voice in Lesotho's LGBTQ+ and youth empowerment spaces. Their writing is inspired by lived experience, political resistance, and the quiet moments that shape who we become when no one is watching. This is their debut book
