Art With Alayne: Virtual Classes & Meet Ups

Watch the most recent virtual Art with Alayne class at the top of Featured Lessons and begin your project. Then, join Alayne and your fellow art students from AHML in a virtual meet up on Zoom. Share your work inspired by the class, or get help from Alayne to complete your project, and learn tips for upcoming classes. Scroll to the bottom of this page to register for upcoming Creative Aging: Art with Alayne Meetups.  Once you register, your confirmation and reminder emails will contain a link to join the meetup.

Registrants can pick up a free Create kit with supplies at the drive-up window. We will notify you by email when your kit is ready.

Supplies used for all of the previous lessons can be ordered using the individual supply lists below. Having trouble finding an item, ask Alayne for substitution options for upcoming or past lessons in a Meet up.

Supplies You Can Use for Multiple Lessons

  • Cray-Pas Expressionist Assorted Color Oil Pastel Set (25-piece set or, if unavailable,16-piece set will work for most projects)
  • Canson XL Series Watercolor Paper Pad, 140 Pound, 9 x 12 Inch, 30 Sheets (both spiral bound or foldover style pads work)
  • Heavy weight white drawing paper 
  • White Sulphite Drawing Paper - (Blick)
  • Pacon gray bogus drawing paper - (Blick)
  • 10 x 14 Masonite art board – (you can use this as your art board for all projects or use cardstock or other rigid paper or cardboard that you discard each time.  Size needs to be large enough to fit  your 9 x 12 art piece) 
  • ½ “ x 60 yard Drafting tape (You can substitute blue painter’s tape if you have it.  Masking tape is not ideal) 
  • 2B Pencils
  • Plastic eraser (white block eraser)
  • Kneadable eraser
  • Prang semi-moist 8-color watercolor set
  • India ink WATERPROOF (1 small bottle)
  • Blick, Sax or Sargent Black, brown, blue and violet liquid watercolor (buy single 4 or 8 ounce bottles) 
  • Bamboo or wooden skewers

  • 4 - 6 cotton swabs (generic with plastic works better than Q-tip brand)

  • Yellow Crayola broad line marker (NOT permanent)
  • Aerosol hairspray (we used Suave max hold 8 unscented)

Supplies by Lesson - Picasso (May 2025)

  • 1 sheet 8 x 10 Canson watercolor paper (use 1/2" drafting tape to tape paper to your art board on all 4 sides with tape half on paper and half on board)
  • NOTE: can also use painter's tape - just cover 1/4" of your paper so that you have the same work area as Alayne
  • Art board, cardstock, or newspaper on which to tape artwork down (larger than your 8 x 10 paper)
  • 4x4 square Canson watercolor paper
  • Pencil and eraser
  • Fine point black Sharpie
  • Liquid black watercolor
  • Liquid blue watercolor
  • Size 6 round synthetic brush

  • Block eraser cut in half - (we used Mars block eraser)
  • Stick eraser (we used Tombow Mono Knock stick eraser, but a regular pencil eraser can be substituted)
  • Blending stump (we used #4 gray paper blending stump)
  • Sandpaper (fine grit) -optional
