One Book, One Village
One Book, One Village, now in its 13th year, invites the community to read the same book at the same time and share in the experience through related programs and book discussions.
The book selected for 2026 is Culpability by Bruce Holsinger.
About Culpability
Bestselling author and scholar Bruce Holsinger uses a gripping, contemporary narrative to explore how a family responds when tragedy strikes, and the question of blame proves far more complicated than it first appears.
This 2025 Oprah’s Book Club Pick centers on the family drama that ensues after the Cassidy‑Shaw family’s AI‑powered self‑driving minivan collides with another car, with 17‑year‑old Charlie behind the wheel and parents Lorelei and Noah distracted by work.
Interwoven with excerpts from Lorelei’s academic research on the ethics of artificial intelligence, the novel explores responsibility in the age of AI, the illusion of security promised by innovation, how privilege shapes consequences and the human costs that emerge when moral ambiguity collides with modern life.
At its heart, Culpability asks what it truly means to be responsible for one another in an era of instant judgment, inviting readers to grapple with empathy, accountability and the possibility of healing.
