Library of Things
The Library of Things collection offers Arlington Heights cardholders the opportunity to take home and try a variety of assistive devices and technology. Check out the Assistive Devices and Cognitive Care collections.
Accessibility Support Collection for Youth
The Accessibility Support Collection features over 400 items including print materials, therapeutic toys and tools which allows families and therapists to try out specialized items before purchasing them. Available to both Arlington Heights cardholders and other borrowers. The collection was made possible in partnership with C.I.T.Y. of Support (Children in Therapy and You).
Assistive Devices
- Motorized scooters, rollator walkers and canes are available on the first floor at the Dunton entrance and the lower level underground parking entrance.
- Cane holders are available at all public services desks.
- Hearing loop that supports hearing aids with a T-coil mode is available in the Hendrickson Room. Personal amplifiers are available at the Info Desk.
- Desktop video magnifiers are available in the magazine area and Tech Learning Center. Magnifying glasses and sheets are available at the Info Desk.
- Zoom Text is available on one public computer at the Tech Learning Center.
- NonVisual Desktop Access (NVDA) screen readers are available on all public computers and laptops in the Tech Learning Center.
- Sensory-friendly tools, like noise-dampening headphones and fidgets, are available for youth at the Kids’ World and Hub Desks for use in the library or during programs.

Talking Books
Talking Books
Illinois State Library Talking Book and Braille Service is a free program available to qualified individuals who are unable to read due to a visual or physical impairment. A digital player and accessible materials (digital audio and braille books and magazines) are mailed to your home.
Senior & Accessible Services staff can work with you to determine your eligibility and complete your Talking Books application. Once your application is accepted, we are available to assist you with setup and book requests.
