License Plate Renewal


Illinois license plate stickers are available for purchase at the library’s Checkout Desk until 30 minutes before closing. 

What You Need to Bring

  • Illinois Vehicle Registration Renewal Notice, current registration card or Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)  
  • Current driver's license
  • License plate number 

Cost & Service Fees

  • $151 for a standard plate (cost varies for personalized, vanity and other plates)
  • $7.50 service fee per sticker  
  • $5 service fee per sticker if paying by credit card (no additional charge if paying with cash)  

Cash or credit accepted only, no checks. Charges will reflect payment to Arlington Heights Memorial Library.

Stickers are nonrefundable once purchased.

When can I purchase a sticker for next year?

Stickers for the next year are usually available in early December. Please contact the library to confirm availability.

Can I purchase a sticker for previous years?

The library only offers Illinois license plate stickers for the current year unless otherwise stated. 

Can I purchase a sticker if I didn’t pass an emissions test?

If your vehicle needs to pass an emissions test, the library will be unable to renew your license plate.

Can I purchase a sticker for a family member?

You can only purchase a sticker for a family member if the address on your ID is the same as the address listed on the family member’s vehicle registration card. 

How do I find out if I qualify for a discount?

Does the library offer vehicle sticker replacements?

The library is unable to issue vehicle sticker replacements. 

Does the library offer stickers for vehicles with antique license plates?

The library is unable to process renewals for vehicles with antique plates.
