Bravo! Chris Raschka
June 4 - August 12, 2018
Bravo! Chris Raschka was an art exhibit featuring over 50 original pieces of artwork by New York-based children’s book illustrator Chris Raschka rendered in watercolor, pastel and charcoal pencil in his signature style. This exhibition was organized by the National Center for Children's Illustrated Literature, Abilene, Texas. During the exhibit, Chris Raschka visited Arlington Heights to be the library's artist-in-residence, which gave the community an opportunity to meet and get creative with him, hands-on. The Friends of the Library generously funded this compounding artist-in-residence program.
Chris Raschka is an acclaimed artist, musician, and one of the finest children’s book illustrators and authors in the country. He has created over 60 books for children, and won two Caldecott Medals – an annual recognition of the “most distinguished American picture book for children.” Five of his titles have been named New York Times Best Illustrated Children’s Books. His art has been exhibited throughout the United States, including a solo exhibition at the Art Institute of Chicago in 2007–2008. He was born in Pennsylvania, grew up in suburban Chicago, and currently lives and works in New York.
