Catapult

Building da Vinci

October 1 - November 13, 2016

This custom-built exhibit took a page from Leonardo da Vinci’s famous notebook to bring one of his most innovative ideas and inventions to life – his ingenious catapult. Never constructed by da Vinci himself, the catapult was built by engineers Matthew McKee and Jonathon Boley to celebrate our 3rd Annual One Book, One Village community reading of Eric Weiner's The Geography of Genius. Though it was constructed offsite, McKee and Boley captured the build in a time-lapse video, which showed visitors a peek into their process. Families were invited to construct smaller-scale models of da Vinci's other innovations, which were then displayed alongside the life-size catapult. The community came out to two "Meet the Makers" events to meet the builders and try the catapult, launching soft items down the library's Main Street corridor.
