NOTES

The present book attempts to study library relations which emerged and were strengthened between India and the United States during more than the past seventy-?ve years. It is an endeavour to investigate how and to what extent the work of American library specialists on assignment in India helped various institutions in India in their library matters, and how the financial aid received from the U.S. has contributed to the enrichment of library collections in various institutions in the country. It also tries to measure the impact of visiting American library specialists on library science education in India. An effort is also made to find out how the Library of Congress PL 480 Acquisitions Program helped universities and other research institutions in the U.S. to strengthen their library collections with the additions of Indian material of research value and the kind of impact these acquisitions produced. The work undertakes to determine the role played by the American Center libraries in India, American Studies Research Center and the American Institute of Indian Studies in meeting the library needs of the Indian clientele and finally gives an assessment of the Indian in?uence on American library thinking
