NOTES

We live in a country where we can't afford to pay the premiums to fund insurance policies most of us can't afford to use. We are overweight, depressed, and increasingly broke in the maze of our US healthcare. But we have a choice, we can either continue the insanity of what we or doing, or we can change and take a proactive approach. The parable you have in your hands is drawn from true healthcare stories of entrepreneurs and career leaders who populate the spectrum of continuing the status quo of dysfunction to optimizing health, well-being, and profits. This book is designed to address the costs of healthcare you're experiencing today. We chose a parable for you to experience a narrative because we never forget an experience, but content fades into oblivion. In this parable will be ways you may assess where you can explore the ways leaders can map out a path for better health, and reduced costs. Using this methodology, when the company you work at reduces costs, the rising healthcare costs the average company is experiencing won't be passed on to you. (If you continue to pay more for your healthcare coverage, then you might want to pass this book on to your leaders.) This book is also designed to give leaders ways to communicate and exchange ideas. We have drawn from personal experience, peer-to-peer networks we have been a part of, corporations we have served, and our ongoing research. We are also passionate about healthcare solutions that start with you. In this book, we also make the point that while the cost and health of a population are viewed as a group and there are important steps leaders can take to create a culture of health, much of the change occurs one person at a time. What these changes lead to is an increase in responsible self-care, preventative measures, healthy living, and wellness habits. What door will you walk through? It's time to choose between the healthcare door that is complicated and confusing or a door that is proactive, sustainable, and more rewarding. Which door will you choose?
