Joyce had 28 years in Kenya with the Africa Inland Mission, under the Africa Inland Church.In her last 12 years the Church leaders assigned her to work with Kenyan church musicians, to encourage composition of hymns and songs using indigenous music styles, languages and instruments, in 13 of the language groups where the church worked./she was a consultant on indigenous music for ministry in Sudan, Ghana, Algeria, Namibia, Lesotho, Swaziland and the Comoro Islands, and taught courses at Daystar University, Nairobi and six other Bible collegess, including four years at Evangelical Seminary of South Africa Pietermarizburg.Joyce has been awarded International Scholar status with the International Council of Ethnodoxologists
