As Alice and her best friend Alfred take shelter in an underground tube station during the bombing of London in 1941, Alfred's tuberculosis causes him to be quarantined. Alice spends time with him, imagining the other occupants of the shelter to be characters within her favorite story -- "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland."
