In this fourth Georgie/Michelangelo mystery, AnnieMae Robertson takes them back to Georgie's hometown. In an attempt to dispel some of the grief following the lengthy illness and subsequent death of her younger daughter, Michelangelo-ever the compassionate man-surprises Georgie with the purchase of a house in the small beach town where she had grown up. During her first walk down along the water's edge, she encounters a frightened young woman, Jessie, who involves them in researching her memory loss. While Georgie befriends the girl, Michelangelo follows bits of information to the town of Rayette in upstate New York, where the mystery deepens and quickly propels them into grave danger
