Chance Colter is unexpectedly approached by his FBI friend Charles Dumont in Rome. Colter and Tika are on their first vacation and Colter doesn't want company. Dumont has been contacted by the CIA and enlists a reluctant Colter to help the agency in its search for Irina Petrova, and American ex-pat being hunted by the feared Russian spy agency, the FSB sending Colter on a dangerous mission to find Irina. Irina discovers the Russian attempt to kidnap her and eliminates one agent after the other running for her life across Italy. In her desperate effort find out what the Russians want from her she discovers family in Turin she didn't know she had. The FSB doesn't give up and eventually after losing four agents to her sends an assassin.
