Event Description

Join the Makerplace's own Chef Brian for a hands-on dessert workshop created in celebration of the Library’s 100-year anniversary. Step back into the 1920s as you and your team recreate two iconic sweets from the era—classic pineapple upside-down cake and a nostalgic icebox cake—while exploring how new ingredients, modern kitchens, and a growing love of convenience shaped American baking a century ago. You’ll mix, bake, layer, and decorate your own creations, then package them to take home and share. Come celebrate a century of community, creativity, and sweetness—one slice at a time.

Space is limited. Culinary classes are designed for adults 18+. Register any time from April 2 at 9:00 a.m. to April 3 at 8:59 a.m. to join the lottery for a chance to attend. Individuals will be chosen at random and notified by email within two business days.

The Makerplace kitchen is not a nut-free, gluten-free, or other allergy free environment.

We strive to host inclusive, accessible events that enable all individuals, including individuals with disabilities, to engage fully. To request an accommodation, please call 847.392.0100, text 847.665.1491 or email us at accessibility@ahml.info
