It is important that each participant read and understand the following:
Please put a check by your name on the sign-in sheet and complete a name tag upon arrival.
Nonreaders are expected to remain courteous and allow the author to read and others to comment without interruption or distractions.
Critiques should be supportive and helpful. Many of us are new writers, reading our work out loud for the first time. Constructive suggestions are appreciated.
Critiques of an author’s work should consist of suggestions that help enhance the writer’s skills and craft.
Critiques of content, topic, genre or any criticisms that stifle the creative process or in any way can be perceived as censoring are not condoned. If an attendee is not comfortable with the content of any piece being read, they are urged to leave the room during the reading and critiquing of the piece. This is an adult group, and therefore, content of works may contain adult themes and/or language.
It is expected that all attendees are authors who want and are ready to have their work critiqued by their peers. Those attendees, who after attending the meetings for two months do not bring work for critiquing, should consider another type of group.
The Writing Place is limited to 25 members. If you are absent from three consecutive meetings, we will assume that you are no longer interested in attending. If circumstances will prevent you from attending over a period of three meetings and you wish to remain in the group, please contact, in advance, the facilitator, Susan B. Auld, 847-387-9686/ suauld@yahoo.com or Linda Mulford, 847-506-2628/ lmulford@ahml.info. Otherwise, your name will be removed from the list and you will need to register again.
