• Each volunteer will be a member of one squad
• Each squad will be working directly with two staff members to accomplish specific projects

Have you been bitten by the acting bug? Then consider joining this group!  You will work as a team to design interactive programs involving stories, music, crafts, and more.
 
Biblio Buddies
Fridays, 9:30-1:30 / noon - 2 p.m.

Join our Bookmobile and outreach staff as we visit the families of migrant workers at the Arlington Racetrack this summer. Volunteers will prepare and present bilingual programs for children. Native Spanish speakers and students who have taken Spanish language classes are encouraged to apply.
 
Súmate a nuestro equipo de voluntarios que irá con el Bookmobile al Arlington Racetrack este verano para visitar a las familias de trabajadores migrantes. Los voluntarios prepararán y presentarán programas bilingües para los niños. Se anima a aplicar a hispanohablantes nativos y a estudiantes que hayan tomado clases de español.

This squad will help kids entering grades 1-3 keep up their reading skills over the summer. Squad members will choose books based on a theme and be expected to read aloud, listen to and plan activities for their young readers.

Are you a master builder of forts, towers, and pyramids? Were blocks, Legos, and K’NEX your favorite toys growing up?  Then this squad is for you. You’ll plan and present building programs for younger children.

Whether you’re a master coder or a complete noob, join us for a summer of programming and put your skills to the test! In <code>breakers, you’ll explore and master new technologies and toys that are programmed with code. You will then share your nerd knowledge with others by creating and leading library events to encourage others to dabble in the joys of coding.

Organize and run craft programs that you design for kids. Decide on what crafts to present then assist in the creation of the finished product.

Play is an important part of every child’s development. In this squad we are asking you to get in touch with your “inner kid” in order to plan fun play activities for the Kids’ World Imagine area as well as activities for the weekly open playgroups
 
Messy Monday Squad

Have you ever wished you could swim in a pool filled with rainbow spaghetti, fingerpaint with yogurt, or go fishing in a big bowl of jello?  Now you can live the messy life through babies and toddlers ages 0-23 by creating messy play experiences for them!   You’ll get to plan and present some totally untidy sensory play experiences during Ooey Gooey Babies and Tots Playtime.

Splinter Squad

Learn the basics of woodworking in this hands-on summer squad! Aspiring woodworkers will explore common woodworking tools and techniques. We’ll make more than sawdust this summer – use learned skills and your creativity to craft a customized phone charging dock and contribute to a group project for the community!

Sprout Squad

Learn about where food comes from in this summer squad! We’ll plant, maintain and harvest healthy, sustainable produce. We’ll also experiment in the kitchen and enjoy the fruits of our labor. Get your hands dirty each week and show off your green thumb in this hands-on group! No gardening experience necessary.

Help at the Summer Reading Table in Kids’ World signing kids up and explaining how to play the Summer Reading program. Assist kids with the various activities and had out prizes. Select two to three shifts a week. Shift times depend on availability.
