Come on! Show us what you can do! Let's get creative!
On Saturday, March 24th at 6:30pm the AHML is having a specialafter hours Hunger Games Event!
Upon entering the Arena, you will be sorted into a District. After sorting, Fashion Designer Zoe Damacela (maybe you saw her on the cover of Seventeen or when she was on the Tyra Banks Show?), will talk about her start in the fashion business, share tips, and answer questions. She's going to be our very own Cinna! And then...
The Hunger Games begin!
Each district will rotate between an archery contest, a trivia contest, and a costume design station. At the end, we will have a Hunger Games Fashion Show, judge by Zoe D! The top 3 contestants will then represent their district in the Cornucopia Challenge.
In addition to the face painting and the Hunger Games inspired food and drinks, there will be prizes for the winning district!
Don't forget to register! Good Luck to all those competing!
I haven't gotten to the book yet, but the very first sentence reads: I was seventeen years old when I saw my first dead body. Now that's an attention getter.
Have you read it? Did you like it? Let us know!
Interested in seeing the books that made the Honor List?
Seriously, isn't this Hunger Games countdown widget ridiculously awesome? It's the intro to the propos Katniss describes in Mockingjay!
Did you have the sound on? Did you hear the fire? Isn't that insane!
I'm so excited to see this movie! Aren't you? Until the movie comes out, I've been re-reading Suzanne Collins'The Hunger Games, but you know what else is good? The Underland Chronicles series from the same author. The first book is Gregor the Overlander. I think you'll like it.
You can also go over to the Official The Hunger Games site and watch a nice long trailer or catch "sneak peaks" of the movie. They're awesome, too.
These are Gifts In Action. You buy a goat or a chicken or a can of worms as a charitable gift. You get a card with a picture of the gift you bought. You send the card to the person you bought the gift for and the goat or chicken or can of worms is given to people in povern communities around the world to help improve their lives. And you have a lot more options than just animals and worms. Maybe you want to send soap or art supplies or medicine. You can even buy a song.
Street Art is my favorite kind of art and Morley is my favorite street artist.
Morley does stark, black and white wheatpaste posters (though he'll occasionally break out the paint markers) of funny or encouraging or thought-provoking messages. Given the nature of his art (it's kinda illegal), Morley is a "masked" artist - he's anonymous. Just like Banksy, no one really knows who he is or what he really looks like. But, what's crazy is that Morley always includes an image of himself in his art.
Go to his website: IAmMorley.com. He's keeps a blog of all the art he puts up and usually includes funny little anecdotes and musings. He even keeps photos of his art being vandalized!
