• Open to Arlington Heights residents only
• All first-time participants must be interviewed
• All participants must attend one orientation
• Each volunteer will be a member of one squad
• Each squad will be working directly with two staff members to accomplish specific projects

Review the squads listed below and be prepared to select three on the application to be considered for. Applications will be available April 1 – April 30 and will be online only.  If this is your first year for Summer Volunteer Squad, click the New Volunteers link. If you were part of Summer Volunteer Squad in past years, you do not need to reapply. Please update your information.

Have you ever wanted to put on a puppet show?  Do you enjoy reading aloud to children?  Then join us as we to present themed storytimes like “under the sea”  with books, puppets, music, crafts, and other activities for ages three to six. 
Dice Guild

Learn how to play tabletop roleplaying games, and plan a program to teach other teens how to play. We will test out a bunch of different game systems, like Dungeons & Dragons and more. Build characters, design adventures, and become expert Game Masters! This squad is for players of any experience level, whether you are a long-time RPG fan or have never rolled a d20 before.

Este verano, acompañen al personal de trabajo comunitario y de la biblioteca ambulante en nuestras visitas con las familias de los trabajadores migrantes de Arlington Racetrack. Los voluntarios se encargarán de preparar y presentar programas bilingües para niños. Invitamos a hispanohablantes y estudiantes que hayan tomado clases de español a que presenten sus solicitudes.
Join our Bookmobile and outreach staff as we visit the families of migrant workers at the Arlington Racetrack this summer. Volunteers will prepare and present bilingual programs for children. Native Spanish speakers and students who have taken Spanish language classes are encouraged to apply.

This squad brings the exciting world of art to toddlers! Design art programs for the youngest members of our community.

Whether you are a NASA nerd or a space novice, we need your help planning and presenting out of this world programs for tweens! This squad will design and present space themed activities for 4th, 5th, and 6th graders for our first ever Space Camp program.
Sprout Squad

Learn about where food comes from in this summer squad! We will plant, maintain and harvest healthy, sustainable produce. We will also experiment in the kitchen and enjoy the fruits of our labor. Get your hands dirty each week and show off your green thumb in this hands-on group! No gardening experience necessary.

Build an indoor, operational planetarium large enough to seat 30 people then invite the community to stargaze. Plan and present family programs throughout the summer.

Orientation June 1, 2, or 5
Help at the summer reading table in Kids' World. Register children for the program and explain how to play. Hand out prizes and supervise the Punch In! game. Volunteers sign up for individual shifts.
