We're excited about new equipment now available near the Tech Help Desk in Digital Services.
The new SimpleScan Station has FREE faxing capability and will be replacing the fax service previously offered at the Checkout Desk. In addition to faxing, this station also has the capability of scanning documents, photos, and books to send to an e-mail address, save to a flash drive, send to our B&W and color printers, generate a QR code to download your scans to your smartphone, and even upload to your Google Drive account.

If your business has a blog, installing apps & plugin’s can add pizazz and efficiency to your blogging platform. I recently came across this post of 29 great tools that can be used in your Wordpress blog. It’s a lengthy list but if you are using Wordpress, it’s worth browsing – I know there are at least one or two that will make your blogging life a little easier. One I use on my blog is the Dropbox plugin for automatically backing up my blog to my Dropbox account. Others in the list that caught my eye and would like to try were #17 The Magic Action Box and #27 PopClip for Mac.
Plugin’s and apps are very easy to install. Every athlete knows in order to perform at their best, rest days in between workouts are critical to building strength and peak performance. The concept is no different for the small business owner. Entrepreneurs work hard to stay one step ahead of the game. This responsibility can be rewarding but stressful, taking a day off often means little to no revenue or concerns about customer service. However, choosing not to take some downtime can lead to burnout and reduced productively. Take advantage of the calendar holidays to unplug, refresh, and recalibrate. Tomorrow is the 4th of July when companies nationwide close for the day. As a small business owner it’s tempting to make return phone calls, check and respond to emails, or draft one more letter. Take a tip from the big guys and unplug for a day. Focus on friends, family, and fun or rest if that’s what you need most. When Friday comes, you won’t regret unplugging, in fact, you might decide to carve out time to do it more often!

I recently discovered one of our databases that is not traditionally used for business purposes. The Books & Authors Database is a great resource for your research needs as you navigate a new skill or grow as a business owner. I've gone ahead and done a search for Business Books - marketing specifically - to get you started. Once you find a book you're interested in, check to see if AHML has it, and if they don't they can find it for you! Go ahead, poke around and discover a new resource based on your interests and needs.
The Arlington Heights Library has a cool new tool! Use the AHML Bookmarklet to check whether the library has a book from anywhere on the web! With one click you can find out if you can borrow instead of buy that new business book you've had your eye on. Easy to install and even easier to use, check it out!
Etsy is an e-commerce website for users to sell handcrafted and vintage items. Sellers can create an online store to sell a range of products including art, jewelry, photographing, clothing, textiles and household and food items.
