Google Analytics is an excellent and free tool from Google that allows users to track and analyze visitors to their websites. Data on website usage, social media referrers, keywords, visitor location, and more can be monitored to help businesses target marketing, website content and search engine optimization.
The Library's database Lynda.com offers video tutorials on using Google Analytics including how to set up an account, install the tracking code, customize the reports and analyze the data. The Illinois Small Business Development Center at Harper College is offering a QuickBooks class for entrepreneurs.
This hands-on class is designed for entrepreneurs with little experience working with QuickBooks. Topics include: setting up a new company, accounts receivable and accounts payable transactions, bank reconciliations, credit card reconciliation, running basic financial reports, tracking and paying sales tax. Entrepreneurs will have the opportunity to work on their QuickBooks file during the session.
Tuition: $100 (includes box lunch and QuickBooks manual).

A representative from SCORE will present on how to assess your prospects, give you the initial direction needed and inspire you to move forward to realize your dream.
Wednesday, May 9 at 7:00 pm-Business Plans
A representative from SCORE will present on how good planning increases the odds of success. This workshop covers the essential elements of business plan development including setting goals and objectives, preparing marketing and financial plans and defining action steps to attain your goals.

There are a variety of innovative and affordable tools to help create videos you can share online and through social media. The Library's Digital Media Lab is an excellent resource for the business owner who is looking to create audio and visual projects to spotlight their business.

Looking to increase your tech skills for work or to impress your friends? Several "Basic Computer Skills" tutorials that cover Windows 7 and Microsoft Office 2010 suite (Word, Excel, Access and Powerpoint) are now included in Testing and Education Resource Center.
There is a mix of text and video that can help get you started with these essential productivity tools.
Find the Resource Center via our main "Databases" page or our "Education" listings. If you're working from home, you'll need to log in using your library card for access. Then, once you're in, you'll create a personal profile, so you can keep track of your progress. From there, go to "Career Tools" and "Basic Computer Skills."
