Learn4Life is one of our most recent additions to the collection of databases here at AHML. It provides in-depth, instructor led, 6 week courses including several business related courses! The opportunities for lifelong learning are wide ranging and so practical! What normally would cost about $90 for someone registering for these courses outside of the library are available to you with the use of your library card for free! It's an incredible value.  This includes local businesses with a business library card.
We specifically wanted to draw attention to a brand new course titled Social Media for Business. As you progress through the course, you'll master a simple process for making social media work for you. You'll learn about the five most popular social media platforms—Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest, and Google+—and study secrets for using them to promote your business, how to manage the social media so it doesn't take over your time, and out to measure the success of your efforts.

Our Business Center has been updated with a collection of business books available for checkout. These include the latest titles on social media, marketing, starting a business, and more. You will also find all of our book discussion books in here. (Join us for the next discussion in November). We’ve also re-organized the 9 business magazine subscriptions to be more accessible, such as Forbes, Entrepreneur, Fortune, Bloomberg Business Week and more.  Come to the Business Center and browse today!
We also have a networking and marketing round-table discussion tonight in the Business Center at 7pm!  One key to marketing your business is visibility. This networking and marketing round-table discussion is a great opportunity to build relationships in the community and share fresh marketing ideas with fellow small-business owners. Learn4Life is a wonderful database of 6 week instructor-led online courses available to library cardholders. We would encourage you to poke around and discover a course that can help enhance your business!
Of special note, The Discover Digital Photography & Learn to Buy and Sell on eBay courses have been updated recently to reflect the most recent developments in these areas. In addition, a brand new course has been released Introduction to LinkedIn Career Networking, which might be a great resource as your business navigates your social media options for networking and marketing. There are many many more courses available - all with your AHML library card.
If you are not a resident but have a business located in Arlington Heights, you qualify for a business library card which allows you to take advantage of this resource as well!

13 small business owners joined us for this week's Business Bytes where we discussed all of the amazing resources available in the new Digital Studio, technology classes, help desk, databases with software tutorials, and other resources. The discussion was lively and attendees walked away with a new appreciation for the rich resources at their home library!

As entrepreneurs, have you ever felt so close to your business that you feel stuck when it comes to fresh ideas for marketing?
On Wednesday, September 25, we're offering an informal roundtable/networking event for local business owners to share what marketing efforts have worked for them, and what hasn't. This event comes one week after our business book discussion on 500 Social Media Marketing Tips. We're hoping the conversation will continue, and local business owners will connect in an atmosphere of friendly networking and sharing of information. Sometimes business owners and solopreneurs just need to be with other's who "get it," so come join us! 
Our Business Services staff will be there to help facilitate the discussion, guide insight into how social media and library resources can be used, and help participants walk away with fresh ideas that can be used in each unique business!
