Books for Beginning Readers

Even as your children start to read on their own, they’ll continue to enjoy sharing books with you.  Readers of all ages benefit from hearing stories read aloud.

Books for Beginning Readers
Easy Readers support the developing skills of beginning readers, using (and repeating) familiar vocabulary and short chapters, while pictures provide clues to words.

Children using Easy Readers should find the reading to be, well, easy!  Choose texts your children can read fluently, or almost fluently.  When reading is a positive experience for children and they experience success, it motivates them to read more.

Ask a librarian for help in finding books that are “just right” for your new readers.

Our Easy Readers are labeled with four different colored stickers to indicate the general reading level:

Pink:
10 words or less per page
Yellow:
More than 10 words per page, with repetition
Green:
Longer stories with less repetition
Orange:
Long stories using more difficult words
