Specialty Info Services Advisor (Bilingual English/Spanish)

Our customers are amazed by how we’ve created destinations for them to learn and find inspiration. At AHML, we provide engaging services and programming, welcoming spaces, a vibrant collection and museum-quality exhibit experiences for every age. During 2018, we hosted over one million visitors and almost 100,000 people attended our programs.
We are looking for a resourceful and creative individual to serve our diverse community, including Spanish-speaking customers.  This new position will involve extensive interaction with the public, providing service to multiple audiences including adults, teens and children as well as ESL/literacy students.  This bilingual Advisor will also support programs and events in the library and out in the community.  Candidates must thrive at critically listening to the needs of this audience and be adept at approaching customers of all ages and cultures to help them quickly connect with their favorite interests and information needs.
Requirements & Skills: 
Positive and friendly approach to customer service, including experience serving multicultural audiences and customers of all ages. Must be comfortable and effective with public speaking.  Prefer candidates with a passion for reading and broad knowledge of books, music, and movies.   
Highly effective verbal communication skills in English and Spanish, as well as strong writing skills in both languages.   Excellent organizational and time management skills.  Demonstrated ability to excel in Our Culture
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
Hours and Scheduling: 
Part-time, 25 hours per week.  Flexibility in scheduling is required to work daytime and evening hours, as well as some weekends.
Salary and Benefits: 
Starting salary $17.72 - $20.85 per hour, depending on qualifications.
Benefits includes 2 weeks of vacation, sick and personal leave allowances, Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (pension plan) and availability of 457/Roth savings plans.

6.012 Patron-Generated Content

The Library offers various venues in which patrons can contribute content that is accessible to the public.  These include, but are not limited to, blogs, reviews, forums, and social tagging on the Library’s website and catalog.  Any instance in which a patron posts written or recorded content to any of the Library’s venues that are accessible to the public is considered “patron-generated content” and is subject to this policy.
By contributing patron-generated content, patrons grant the Library an irrevocable, royalty-free, worldwide, perpetual right and license to use, copy, modify, display, archive, distribute, reproduce and create derivative works based upon that content.
By submitting patron-generated content, patrons warrant they are the sole authors or that they have obtained all necessary permission associated with copyrights and trademarks to submit such content.
Patrons are liable for the opinions expressed and the accuracy of the information contained in the content they submit.  The Library assumes no responsibility for such content.
The Library reserves the right not to post submitted content or to remove patron-generated content for any reason, including but not limited to:
  • content that is profane, obscene, or pornographic;
  • content that is abusive, discriminatory or hateful on account of race, national origin, religion, age, gender, disability, or sexual orientation;
  • content that contains threats, personal attacks, or harassment;
  • content that contains solicitations or advertisements;
  • content that is invasive of another person’s privacy;
  • content that is unrelated to the discussion or venue in which it is posted;
  • content that is in violation of the Library’s Code of Conduct or any other Library policy
