Genealogists are very good at doing research and collecting many facts about their families. Mike Karsen will show how to publish these findings in books that vary from a simple 30 pages to one that contains detailed biographies and places your family in historical context. Learn how to organize your findings and share them with your family as soon as possible. Register online or at the Reception Desk on the second level, 847-392-0100.


The Genealogy Collection
The library maintains a large genealogy and local history collection in the Kathrine Shackley Room, located on the second level.

Our Genealogy collection contains:

Reference books – over 8,000

Circulating books – over 300

Genealogy periodicals and newsletters –
   over 125

A large map collection, especially
   of Cook County

The Shackley Room is staffed by volunteers to assist patrons with family research. Every Tuesday afternoon, a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) is on duty.

Library staff will answer genealogy queries by telephone, email and regular mail if an exact name, place and date is given. We are unable to do extensive research.
