If you've been on the internet within the last 24 hours, you probably know what a gif is. If you don't and even if you do take a look at this awesome video below to educate yourself!

At our teen program called "Cinemagraphtastical!" (I know, it's a seriously long name for a program) we created gifs that only had one element of the image moving. The outcome is sometimes creepy, always cool.

Here are a few made during the program...

The program also counted toward the AMYGDALA and RIGHT BRAIN challenges for our Teen Summer Reading Program: Summer Reading, Summer Doing! Want to join? Sign up here!

Do you have a photographer's eye? You may be interested in coming to the Thinking Visually program this Thursday, 6/26. Register here!

If you haven't already signed up for our summer reading program, register online now! Once you're signed up, you can help us light up the Hub's brain by putting a light bulb into a synapse of our awesome brain sculpture.

We have four types of challenges that will work different parts of your brain.

  • The LEFT BRAIN relates to  logical thinking. To complete this challenege, send us a book, movie, or music review. You can post it on one of our social media sites or email it to teens@ahml.info. Reviewing not your thing? Participate in the Teen Book Club - join the discussion to complete a LEFT BRAIN challenge.
  • The RIGHT BRAIN is associated with creativity. For this challenge, come in this month to make your very own terrarium! Next month, we'll be making some awesome coasters in our makerspace. You can also draw a picture on one of our drawing pad tables, submit a film to the 8th Annual Film Fest, or participate in one of the 55-Gallon ARTify programs on July 19th or July 26th.
  • The AMYGDALA is the part of the brain that benefits and regulates social interactions. In this month's social media contest, we're writing short stories that are 55 words or less! Submit a story, complete the challenge, and have a chance at winning a prize (and eternal glory). We have a social media contests every month so you will achieve that goal in no time! Another way you can get the AMYGDALA challenge completed is by attending any teen program or TAB (Teen Advisory Board) meeting, learn more about that here
  • The HIPPOCAMPUS challenge is possibly the easiest one to complete. Post a picture or description of you being active: doing a cartwheel, biking, anything that has you moving! Then post it to any of our social media sites with the hashtag #hub500fitness. Not on social media? No worries - just let us know next time you're in the Hub. That's it, then you're done with the HIPPOCAMPUS challenge!

Once you finish three of the four challenges, you get another light bulb for the brain. You'll also be entered to win one of six $50 gift cards to Dick's Sporting Goods, Etsy, or Barnes and Noble.

So, go get started with those challenges!
