England...The Lake District -- 1912: A Great War is bearing down upon everyone, and Beatrix Potter, solver of mysteries, is distracted by the constant noise from that new contraption, the hydroplane... constantly flying by, landing on lakes, buzzing off again...  And Ms Potter needs to concentrate.  One of her dear friends has been getting letters of an anonymous and unpleasant nature.  And dear Miss B. may have other interests of a fonder nature opening up before her.  Even if her parents don't approve.
And the dragon, the owls and a certain Jack Russell Terrier have their own lives and opinions to comment upon, of course.
Susan Wittig Albert has been writing well-received mysteries for some time.  I have her gardening series (starts with Thyme of Death) on my To-Do list.  Plus the 'Darling Dahlia' Garden Club mysteries set in Alabama during the Depression (start with The Darling Dahlias and the Cucumber Tree).  And these fanciful mysteries featuring the famous B. Potter, with all of those creatures who surround her (start with The Tale of Hill Top Farm).
AND... Ms Albert and her husband Bill have created Kathryn Ardleigh, a transplanted American in Victorian England, who runs into Sir Charles Sheridan, peer and amateur scientist (start with Death at Bishop's Keep).  Penned under the name of Robin Paige, set in an English village named Dedham- what better location for a few murders?
