Student film project masquerading as a feature film

The movie has a tedious start – should include a latte to keep viewers awake. The action, such as it is, centers on a run-down bi-state hotel, the El Royale, which straddles the California/Nevada state line - Part in one state, part in another.

The movie features some good actors, the FBI man from “The Town”, the woman from “Fifty Shades”, ‘Thor” and Rooster Cogburn from the “True Grit” remake. What bet did they lose that forced them into this project?

The plot is cut up like fajita meat. Beware of any movie that has to have title slides to announce what the next scene is about. It is a dead give away that there is no plot, no story and weak narrative.

In most movies, the viewer roots for a character. In this move, the viewer roots for all the characters – to die, so the movie can end.

The movie title is half right. It is Bad times, not at the El Royale, but your house, because you’ve borrowed this movie.
