The Chaperone begins in 1922 with Cora Carlisle, a 36 year old housewife and mother of grown boys, who accompanies 15 year old Louise Brooks (a real life dancer and silent film star) to New York City as her adult chaperone. The story covers their time in New York and also follows Cora's life for the next 50+ years. This well-written story has interesting plot turns with elements of real life American history and social issues added for authenticity. The characters are brought to life by the expert narration of Downton Abbey's Elizabeth McGovern. I thoroughly enjoyed this audio book!
