In 1811, while aiding Spain in its quest to seek independence from Napoleon's France in the Peninsular War, Captain Richard Sharpe and his company stumble upon a small, decimated village. There, they find a unit of renegade French troops raping a small girl. Much to his horror, Sharpe discovers that many of the villagers have either been raped or mercilessly killed. As a result, Sharpe kills all the captured French soldiers and takes the looming Battle of Fuentes d Oñoro personally
