In Cinema paradiso, Salvatore, a successful film maker, receives news of the death of his old friend Alfredo, and returns to his village for the first time in 30 years. He recalls as a wide-eyed altar boy, he became friends with Alfredo, the projectionist at the parish cinema. Through the magic of movies, Alfredo taught him about love and life, and carefully shaped the course of his future. It was Alfredo who loved him enough to push him away from the village to find fame and fortune elsewhere
