A Fun Summer Read + Educational = The Perfect Combination

This is a fun historical-fiction read about the early beginnings of the stock market. The protagonist of the story, Benjamin Weaver, is approached to look into the death of his father, who he thought was killed simply by accident. As Ben slowly uncovers the events that lead up to his father's death, he (and the readers) learns more about Exchange Alley (an early version of Wall Street) and how his father may have uncovered something very powerful people did not wish to get uncovered.

As someone not overly familiar with the workings of the stock market, I felt that the author was able to explain the concepts and theories behind the beginnings of the stock market in an easy to understand fashion that was fun but still educational. I recommend trying to find a copy of this book with a reader's guide at the back; the author explains in greater detail how the characters of his story relate to real-life people and how he came to write a story about this area of history.
