Our History
In August 1979 the Volunteer Program at the Arlington Heights Memorial Library
began with eight volunteers. Now, over 29 years later, the program is still growing with 200 volunteers who donate more
than 25,000 hours of service annually. Volunteers work in the main library, the Reading Room, and the Computer Room at the Arlington Heights Senior Center, and as book sale sorters
for the Friends of the Library.
Volunteers play a vital role at the Arlington Heights Memorial Library. They
generously donate their time, talents, and skills to assist staff members in
providing top-quality service to our patrons.

Who are our volunteers? Our volunteers are people of all ages, many cultures and varied experience and backgrounds — people who
support the mission of the Arlington
Heights Memorial Library and want to lend a hand.
