Volunteers

Who are our volunteers?

Our volunteers are people of all ages who come from many cultures and have varied experience and backgrounds — people who support the mission of the Library and want to lend a hand.  Volunteers play a vital role in helping staff members provide top-quality service to our patrons.

Volunteer placement

Volunteers are placed in positions best suited to their skills, interests, and availability. Volunteer selection is based on qualifications of applicants and the needs of the library at any given time. Our volunteers work in varied positions around the library and are involved in activities such as:

  • Teaching or coaching computer classes
  • Assisting patrons with genealogy research
  • Processing new books
  • Assisting with interlibrary loans and reserves
  • Tutoring ESL students
  • Staffing the Reading Room or Computer Room at the Senior Center
  • Sorting and organizing donations for the Friends of the Library book sales

Volunteer application

You are invited to complete a volunteer application form (requires Acrobat Reader 8 or above) and email it to volunteer@ahml.info or return it to the Library's Reception Desk on the second level. If needed, printed application forms are available at the Reception desk. For additional information, contact the volunteer office at 847-870-3784.
