Using Online Services From Home

Many of the library's databases and other online services can be used outside the library. These databases are marked with an asterisk (*). All other databases are available in the library only.

For Arlington Heights Residents
All Arlington Heights residents who have a library card are automatically registered to use our databases. Just enter your AHML library card barcode and your last name as a password. Be sure to keep your library card current because your access expires when your library card expires.

Arlington Heights residents who do not have a library card must obtain one in person at the Checkout Desk. You will need to bring two forms of identification with your current Arlington Heights address.

For Nonresidents
Nonresidents must register annually in person at the library's Welcome Desk. You will need either a valid public library card or a photo I.D. to register. Specifics can be found on the registration form. You can print and fill out this form at home and bring it with you to the library.

When you register, you will receive a user name and password to log in. If you forget your user name or password, you must return to the Welcome Desk. For security reasons, library staff cannot tell you your user name or password over the phone.

Using Databases and Other Services From Home
To use a database, select find information and the database category of your choice. Click on the database. The login screen will come up. Follow the directions on the screen.

To use an online service such as reference or homework tutoring, click on the service and follow directions for that service.

User Responsibility
It is the responsibility of each user to obey all local, state, and federal laws while using our online services, including but not limited to copyright, fraud, obscenity, and privacy legislation. A user acknowledges that unauthorized reproduction, transfer, or use of material accessed through these services may be a criminal offense under the United States Copyright Act.

Content & Availability
The Arlington Heights Memorial Library is not responsible for the content, quality, validity, or currency of any information that the library did not create. Databases or other resources are subject to change without notice. The library reserves the right to modify or discontinue this service if it is judged necessary by the Board of Library Trustees.

It is the library's goal to provide access to these selected electronic resources 24 hours a day, seven days a week. However, high demand, reliability of technology, service hours limited by the vendor, or other factors may affect the delivery of the service. For these reasons the library cannot guarantee the availability or reliability of the service.

Privacy Statement
The Arlington Heights Memorial Library uses your computer's unique numerical address (known as the IP address) to analyze trends and patterns of usage of the library's web site, web catalog, databases and other online services. Specific user logins are not linked to personally identifiable information. Your computer's IP address may be linked to specific time log entries, but this identification is automatically removed before statistics are generated.
